📶 Quick take
An eSIM is the easiest option if your phone supports it (most iPhones/Androids since ~2018–2020 do) — no airport counter, no physical swap, and you can activate it before you land. Pocket WiFi is the fallback for older phones or if you want one hotspot for multiple devices.
📱 Option 1 — eSIM
Airalo
Popular, easy app-based setup. Buy a Taiwan data plan before you fly, install ahead of time, activate on landing so it's ready the moment you're off the plane.
Ubigi
Similar eSIM provider, sometimes better rates for longer stays. Same install-before-you-fly approach.

Keep your home SIM active for calls/texts if you need it — eSIM runs alongside as your data line (dual-SIM). Check Settings → Cellular that data roaming is off on the home line to avoid surprise charges.

📡 Option 2 — Pocket WiFi

Rent at a TPE airport counter on arrival, or pre-book online for pickup. Good if you're traveling with someone and want to share one hotspot, or if your phone is eSIM-incompatible. Return it at the airport on departure (or a marked dropbox).

💳 EasyCard — Not Just Transit

Buy or load at any MRT station or 7-Eleven. Works for MRT, buses, and as a tap-to-pay at convenience stores. Load NT$500+ to start — you'll burn through it fast between night market food and MRT rides.
